Google Strikes and Makes Bid for Time Warner
SAN JOSE, Cal.- Media industries have had quite a stir this week as Google Inc. (GOOG) has made a hostile takeover bid for the purchasing of Time Warner Inc. (TWX) Google has offered a grand total of $50 billion dollars in cash and stocks.
The offer has been broken down into three payments. $35 billion would immediately be given to stockholders in cash, $10 billion in stock, and the remaining $5 billion would be debt. The offer has not been accepted at this time.
Google is confident in their offer and industry analysts are hopeful. Google CEO, Dr. Eric Schmidt stated, “Google strikes while the iron’s hot, and the irons hot right now in the media industry. However, Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) and Microsoft Inc. (MSFT) are feeling a bit of discontent over the offer. Yahoo had high hopes of being bought out by Time Warner before Google made their hostile bid. Microsoft had also been contemplating the purchase of Time Warner but didn’t act in time. As they always say, the early bird gets the worm.

President Lincoln Dedicates Ground
Battlefield to Be New Cemetary
GETTYSBURG, Penn.- Thursday afternoon, President Abraham Lincoln delivered a speech dedicating the sacred battleground of the Battle of Gettysburg into the new Soldier's National Cemetary. 1,500 people were present for President Lincolns dedication. President Lincoln captivated the crowds attention in making the hopeful statement, “ That we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom.” Lincoln emphasized the point that the 7,500 whose blood has already been spilt have dedicated this sacred ground. “We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.”
President Lincoln’s speech will be remembered for years to come. He has a divine talent of captivating the people and bringing them hope, daring them to dream of a better life.

LOGAN, Utah- Mary Ann Parlin first became aware of the lack of outside health care information while doing a dissertation at Mountain West Physical Therapy. Patient’s lack of knowledge has proved that the healing process takes longer, creates more problems with surgeries, and leaves the patient feeling unsatisfied with the medical staff. In Jan. 2006, Parlin began assimilating ClearPoint, a small team of well-trained and highly-experienced designers with over 40 years of combined experience.
ClearPoint provides pamphlets and DVD’s for patients to watch before medical procedures. Three different pamphlets are complete so far, along with what is called a “pregnancy wheel”, complete with a DVD. DVD’s for in-patient and out-patient clients are available and a Lumbar Fusion Physical Therapy clip. Preston Parker, Senior Vice President Project Manager for ClearPoint, said they have yet to receive negative feedback from any patients or medical staff. “People can recover up to fifty percent faster when they are educated. When they have the education and know what to expect during surgery, they aren’t as afraid. We actively engage patients in facing authentic problems related to their health.”
ClearPoint currently provides these services for Cache Valley Specialty Hospital and Mountain West Physical Therapy. No extra costs apply to patients.

OPRAH WINFREY DIES AT 54
Tragic Accident Leaves Oprah Dead
CHICAGO Ill.- Oprah Gail Winfrey passed away February 14, 2008, at age 54. Oprah was on her way home from filming around 3:30 yesterday when an adoring crowd of fans mobbed her and she suffocated. Many around the world mourn her loss and she will be greatly missed.
Oprah was born January 29, 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Though she grew up in rough conditions, Oprah decided at an early in life to make something of herself. At age 19, Oprah got her start in life working as a reporter for a radio station in Nashville. She continued to move up in her career as a talk show host for “People are Talking”, and later was sent to Chicago to start her own show called “A.M. Chicago”. Finally in 1986, the “Oprah Winfrey Show” began and she was at the peak of her career.
Film, radio, magazine, book clubs. You name it, Oprah has done it. Along with her own talk show, she began the Oprah Winfrey book club, “O” magazine, and an online newsletter millions have prescribed to. Her talk show has won several Emmy Awards and her acting in the film “The Color Purple” gave her an Oscar nomination. Oprah was determined to use the media to better the live of people, particularly women.
Though Oprah lived the life of a celebrity, she was a very humble and giving woman. She inspired people everywhere through her efforts. Her down to earth personality and big heart has changed so much of the world for the better. Oprah was recently awarded the 2007 Humanitarian Award by The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity, and received several other humanitarian awards throughout her life. After living through such a traumatizing childhood of rape and molestation, Oprah proposed to congress the “National Child Protection Act” , an act to create a nationwide database of convicted child abusers. Oprah was a legend, one whose efforts continue to bless the lives of others daily.
Oprah is survived by her father, Vernon Winfrey and mother, Vernita Lee.

Burglars Going to Court
May Be Facing Jail Time
May Be Facing Jail Time
LOGAN, Utah- A trial date has been set for the two burglars at last weeks break in at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jim Michaels, 35, has will be going to trial March 21. District Attorney Noel Mayfield stated, “We will be seeking for the maximum jail time possible.” The other burglar is a 15-year-old juvenile whose name is not being released at this time. Judge Ellen Mayfield (no relation to Attorney Mayfield) has not decided whether he will be tried as an adult yet. Both burglars have past records and worked together. The only information given out at this time is that they are acquaintances.
However, Defense Attorney Robbie Cochran believes the evidence is flimsy and that his client Michaels can give an alibi. Michaels has posted his bond of $5,000. Attorney Cochran believes this will be an “interesting trial” with Judge Mayfield for rulings are fairly unpredictable.

Two Monitors Destroyed at LDS Church
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is missing two computer monitors this morning due to a break in. The church is located on 900 North, 1600 East. Maintenance man, Robert (Bob) Knotz, made the call to Logan Police Department around 6:15 a.m. where Sheriff Deputy Geoffery Hasty arrived at the scene. Hasty said it is still early in the investigation, but it is suspected two juveniles entered through an open window and attempted to take the monitors. The monitors were found smashed in a hallway and nothing else was taken.
Evelyn Breathwait has lived directly across from the church parking lot for almost 60 years now. When asked if she had seen anything suspicious, she stated, “I awoke last night around 2 a.m. to what sounded like metal or glass scraping and thought it was the garbage man. When I looked out the window and saw the garbage cans untouched, I just went back to bed and didn’t think much of it.” Breathwait says she still feels this is a safe neighborhood and that this is not a common occurrence.
Bishop Lawrence (Larry) Shirk of the Hillcrest 1st ward, was the last to lock up last night. He said there was no suspicious activity at 11 p.m. when he left. Bishop Shirks office window had been left open where the monitors were taken. The LDS Church plans to press charges.
